Treatment of your Sinusitis
A large amount of the population suffer from sinusitis every year. A sinus is a cavity in the skull which is used to make the skull lighter, give room for the skull to grow, and to cool down the inhaled air. There are four types of sinuses in humans which include the maxillary, ethmoid, sphenoid, and frontal sinuses. The maxillary sinus cavity is located below the eye and to the side of the nose below the cheeks. The ethmoid sinus and the sphenoid sinus are some of the most functional sinuses and are located between the eyes and under the nose. The frontal sinus cavity is located in the middle of the forehead.
The sinuses can cause many problems. The most common problem is a sinusitis infection. A sinusitis infection is caused by a blockage of bacteria and mucus in the sinus cavities. The blockage begins usually with a cold or allergy. The sinus cavity lining becomes swollen when a cold or allergy exists. When bacteria get into the sinus cavities, they attack the swollen lining which then causes greater inflammation. The cilia are tiny hairs in the sinuses which are used to flush out bacteria and mucus. When the inflammation from the bacteria occurs, the cilia can no longer flush it out therefore the bacteria and mucus become trapped and the sinusitis infection begins.
There are many symptoms which can occur with sinusitis. Frequently, a person may experience cough, congestion, facial pain and pressure, green nasal discharge, and postnasal drip. When the sinusitis infection lasts for twelve or more weeks it is considered chronic and can have additional symptoms such as loss of sense of taste and smell and the person may also become fatigued.
There are many forms of treatment for a sinusitis infection. Nasal sprays are one common treatment. Nasal sprays work by distributing saline solution up into the sinus cavities. Nasal sprays are meant to moisten the cilia so that the trapped bacteria and mucus can be washed out. The problem with nasal sprays however is that they have large particle sizes that cannot make it past the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavities and up to the sinusitis infection. Oral antibiotics and other oral medications are also frequently used treatments. Oral antibiotics work on infections by flowing through the blood stream to the infected area. Oral antibiotics are usually ineffective when it comes to sinusitis infections due to the fact that there are only a small amount of blood vessels in the sinus cavities which makes it difficult for an efficient amount of antibiotic, along with anti-fungals and anti-inflammatories, to make it to the sinus infection. Another treatment that may be used is irrigation. Irrigation, like nasal sprays, is meant to moisten the cilia so that it can function properly. Also like nasal sprays, it is difficult for it to make it through the inflammation and to the sinuses. Irrigation is also usually a very messy treatment.
Our sinuses have important functions and it is important to keep them clear from infection. A sinusitis infection can become an inconvenience in many ways and also may cause future problems for the sinus cavities. It is best to take care of a sinusitis infection at the beginning and to prevent it from becoming chronic and from leading to surgery.

Truth About Sinus Headaches – What Can You Learn
Sinusitis is a pretty common ailment that afflicts millions of individuals worldwide. The reason for sinusitis is that the paranasal sinuses within our skulls are irritated either by bacteria or allergies that cause the sinus passages to swell and constrict. When this happens, a sinus headache ensues. The areas affected by a sinus headache can be found where the swollen sinuses are which happen to be in the face or check areas, between the eyebrows, and behind the eyes.
Sinus headaches can be very sever and is always accompanied by stuffy nose and a persistent green or yellow colored nasal discharge. There are several very effective over the counter cures for sinus headaches and sinusitis. Unfortunately, these treatments have been known to fail among individuals who have mistakenly diagnosed themselves to have sinusitis and therefore suffer from sinus headaches.
In severe rare cases, one may also experience ear aches, neck and top of the head pains as part of the sinusitis headache symptoms. It is important to take note of all the symptoms of sinusitis because a lot of individuals only think that they have sinus headaches when in fact, they are actually suffering from migraines instead.
It is important to note that sinusitis headache is not the only symptom of sinusitis. If it is indeed sinusitis, you will experience inflammation and tenderness of tissues around the eyes resulting in swollen eyelids and red eyes. Aside from this, there can be a loss of smell from a congested nasal passage.
Furthermore, aside from sinus headaches and other symptoms already mentioned here, sinusitis could trigger fever and cough. The cough can sometimes be a result of a post nasal drip from the draining of the sinuses that irritate the upper windpipe which causes it to be sore and encourages us to cough as a result. Sinusitis is also always accompanied by general weakness and tired feeling.
While it is true that up to 97% of individuals who think they suffer from sinusitis headache symptoms are mistaken because they are actually suffering from migraine, it is very important to make the correct distinction between the two. First, one needs to be properly diagnosed for illness specific medication treatment. It can be quite frustrating to be taking sinusmedication to treat sinus headache symptoms when in fact; the headache is cause by a migraine.
With this said, one must never take the sinus headache symptoms for granted and haphazardly assume that it is a migraine. In some rare instances of complications, sinus headache symptoms may be a signal of acute sinusitis, which results in brain infection. It is therefore very important to get the proper diagnosis and treatment whatever the cause of the headache. If you believe the cause is directly related with a sinus infection you can find remedies for a sinus infection.
Studies have been reported to produce results that show that among individuals who think they suffer from sinus headaches, up to 97% of them actually suffer from migraine instead. It was found that people and sometimes doctors mistake migraine for sinus headaches, resulting in false and useless treatments. Imagine suffering needlessly with these supposed headaches and not getting the much sought after relief from use of sinusitis medication. Naturally, if you suffer from migraine and not sinus headaches, you must get migraine specific medication.
Otherwise, you will continue to suffer from migraines without getting proper treatment and this of course can result to a serious impediment on the quality of life you deserve to enjoy. It is quite easy to mistake migraines for sinus headaches because some individuals who suffer migraine also suffer from sinusitis like symptoms such as pain in the face area as well as a stuffy nose and ref puffy eyes. Although, people must keep in mind that if it is indeed a sinus headache induced by a sinus infection then along with the other symptoms, the person with sinusitis will have constant yellow or green nasal discharge. Without this, it is not a sinus headache from sinusitis. It could be migraine.
To help you and your doctor be able to correctly diagnose the root cause of your headache and determine whether it is indeed sinus headache or migraine, it has been said that it is helpful to keep a headache diary. Keeping tabs and taking notes every time one experiences a headache can help one accurately log the experience and details that may otherwise have been neglected will be highlighted and will help in proper diagnosis.

sinus problem?
rebar_caruso asked:
Can anyone recommend homeopathic or natural home remedy for problem sinus? My right upper sinus above my molars sometimes get infected and press on the nerves of my teeth in that area. It knocks me down for about a week. This last time, I got a low grade fever, uncontrollable shakes with the slightest breeze, and it felt like the side of my face was going to explode. It affected the hearing in my right ear and had me seeing stars in my right eye (which is already sight diminished due to acute optic neuritis). Any help would be appreciated, and I have no known allergies. Thanks!

BTW, my fever broke on the sixth night, and I’m back to normal after three days, tooth is fine, sinus is open again and air is flowing unrestricted. Looking for a maintenance type program, OR an event oriented cure.

What could be the cause of frequent sinus infections?
mda asked:
I seem to have sinus infections and other sinus issues all the time. The doctor told me to see an ENT which I have scheduled an appointment for, but what could be possible reasons for having these sinus problems so frequently. I would say I get about one every month. Thanks everyone.

Use Sinusitis Remedies That Suits You Best
Sinusitis remedies have over the years helped people suffering from sinusitis get relieved from all sorts of symptoms that may come together with the disease. Although these remedies do not directly cure the sinusitis condition, they help a lot in achieving this goal. Knowing that the health condition is caused by the inflammation of sinuses, sinusitis remedies usually deal with all the conditions that trigger this inflammation hence leading to the patient getting cured. Sinus inflammation is most of the time caused by organisms such as bacteria found in the respiratory tract of humans. As they grow in number, they sometimes attack the sinus cells and cause sinus lining to swell up. When this happens, air is restricted from passing to the sinuses and the patient ends up suffering from sinusitis. Another way inflammation can take place is when allergens trigger allergic reactions in the body which lead to the production of histamine which in turn reacts with the sinus lining making it to swell and ultimately subjecting the person to sinusitis.
Steam inhalation is among the sinusitis remedies commonly used to help the patient with this situation. Steam helps in moisturizing the nostrils which helps in increasing the cilia movement in your nose. The cilia wash away any mucus content found in the air passages and thus reducing the restriction of air flow to the sinuses. The presence of air in the sinuses harms the bacteria present there since most of them are usually anaerobes:-organisms that die when exposed to oxygen and air contains oxygen gas. After the bacteria die, the infection finds it hard to survive since no more colonization of cells continues to take place and on the other hand the immune system is fighting hard to bring things to normalcy. Because of all these factors, the infection has no option but to heal.
Another sinusitis remedy that works is the insertion of salt water into your nostrils. This remedy can be applied in two unique ways one of them being simply through swimming. When you swim in the ocean, water systematically enters and comes out of your nose naturally. When the sea water enters the nose, some of it gets into contact with the bacteria present in the nostrils that may be causing the inflammation of the sinuses. Since bacteria are unicellular organisms, the salt found in the sea water drains all the water molecules from their bodies through a process referred to as osmosis. After this takes place, the bacteria are left dead and unable to continue with the infection. This helps the patient to recover quickly and get relieved from all the terrible symptoms that come along with sinusitis. The other way you can administer this remedy is by using a dropper for insertion of the salt solution into your nostrils. This approach works just as well as taking a swim though it is widely considered to be dangerous and should only be used by people who confidently know how to apply it. A good reason behind this assumption is that, as you are dripping the salt solution into your nose, the solution may take a wrong turn if not carefully done and enter the wind pipe hence making you choke in the process.
For sinusitis cases caused by allergic reactions, consumption of fruits such as oranges is seen as an appropriate sinusitis remedy for you. Since allergic sinusitis mostly occurs in people with suppressed immune systems, fruits help to boost the fighting ability of this immune system. Consumption of fruits provide the body immunity with necessary vitamins that fight the actions of histamine which is usually the main cause of sinus inflammation in allergic sinusitis. Once the inflammation has been stopped, the patient is able to recover faster since his immunity has now been boosted by fruit nutrients.
For babies, sinusitis remedies may include placing warm wet pieces of clothing or towels on their faces while particularly rubbing the areas between and below their eyes. This helps improve the circulation inside their sinus cavities which helps cilia in their nostrils increase their movement. When this happens, mucus is easily washed away from the air passages and therefore the breathing process is improved. As air enters the sinus cavities, the bacteria causing the inflammation of the sinuses dies due to the presence of oxygen and as a result of this, the infection is ended and the baby is left to recover smoothly without any complications.
